Remember that General Conference is Saturday, April 3 and Sunday, April 4.
We've been learning the 12 Apostles song during Singing Time. We feel that if the children recognize the prophet and apostles, they will be excited when they see them speaking at General Conference.
Please review the song at home. Use it during Family Home Evening. Just have fun with it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GgXhB3C6s1M
We will be passing out a conference packet for the children to do while watching the conference. There will be special prize for those that finish it and bring back to the Primary Presidency after conference.
We also had a special Relief Society meeting where we talked about making General Conference a special opportunity for you and your family to be together and hear the word of the Lord through His servants.
"Step out of the world, as it were, and set aside two days to reflect on things divine. We are all so busy with our mundane pursuits which pull us this way and that. We all need, the whole world needs, the opportunity to meditate and reflect on the things of God and to listen to words that inspire and help."
President Gordon B. Hinckley at the October 2003 General Conference.
Plan now to have your family set-aside the time to watch General Conference. It is ALWAYS the first weekend of April AND the first weekend in October - so plan the next 20 years by crossing off those dates and having them as "vacation" days and spend it with your family listening to the Lord's servants. Let your children know that this is one of the most important things you can do during that weekend -- more important than sporting events, yardwork, shopping, etc.
Food. What an important part of conference! Make easy, yummy items that make it easy for you and/or your children to grab while you are watching conference. Fruit trays, veggie trays, special drinks (as seen - Italian Sodas mixed with Sprite and half - n- half), pretzels, chips and salsa, muffins, etc. Make it like a special occasion -- which it is. (If you need more ideas and recipe, please contact Sister Whitlock)
What about all those wonderful activities you can have the children do while being in the same room as you during conference? Set-up a tent like King Benjamin's people did and they put the door of the tent facing the prophet (TV). Quiet activities such as puzzles, perler beads, coloring, etc. Give your children special conference notebooks. Please contact a member of the presidency if you want more ideas.)
Lastly, take good notes. Write inspirations that you receive as they are from the Lord. Go to conference with a question. One sister told us of a time when her husband was in the mission field and her husband took 10 questions to conference. Do you know that all 10 questions were answered, in order? Wow! Try it. You will receive answers too!
We hope you all have a wonderful General Conference weekend and be together with your children as you listen to what the Lord wants us to know right now in our lives.
Following conference, we will collect the packets and have a "post conference wrap-up" game. We can't wait to hear what your children learned.
Can't wait until conference!!!!!!
