How Firm a Foundation

At our last Primary presidency meeting, Sister Emily Thomas shared an idea with us when the Redlands temple was built. They had each written their names on a rock and placed it in the foundation of the new temple. She thought it would be cool to do that with the church building being built right now.

We contacted the stake leaders and they orchestrated it so all the children in the stake could be involved.

Last Sunday, we had each child and teacher write their names on a rock. We taught them about how our lives should be strong and solid like a rock and in order to have our "foundations" strong, we need to "build" our lives on the example and teachings of our Savior Jesus Christ.

In Helaman 5:12, it reads, "And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea,his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which yea are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they can not fail."

Brother Polo Doria, who is the liaison on this project, was generous enough to invite a few of us to the construction site to lay down the rocks in the foundation. What an experience it was to see the church at this stage of the game!

We placed all the rocks in the very corner of the Primary room of the building.

Hopefully this experience will be one that all the Primary children will never forget that they were a part of the "foundation" of the new building and they must keep their lives strong just like it.

Wow! I love it!.. Mostly because when I stand in that newly built Primary room, I'll know that my name is somewhere in the foundation! So cool!
