This year we have challenged all members of the Primary to read the Book of Mormon. This is a big goal, especially for our Junior Primary, but we believe it is a very worthy goal and will do everything we can to help them be successful, but ultimately, the home is where this will take place. We have 10 maps that chart the way through each chapter of the Book of Mormon. Everyone was given the first map. Upon completing that map, 1 Nephi, they need to write their name on it, have an adult sign it showing that they have completed 1 Nephi, then bring the map to Primary and turn it in to Kelly Thomas and she will give them the next map. The process will continue until all 10 maps have been completed. Each persons maps will be put into a report cover and returned to them upon completion of the challenge. Maps sometimes get lost, so don't hesitate to get a new one if you need to.
Some ideas to help read the Book of Mormon:
Have an older child read to a younger one
lds.org allows you to download the Book to an MP3 player or CD, or you can have the computer read aloud to younger children
The Book of Mormon has 239 chapters - one chapter a day will have you finished before the year is over
There are 531 pages in the Book of Mormon. At 2 pages a day you can complete the Book in only 266 days, again well under a year
If you miss a few days or even a few weeks, don't start over. Continue on from where you stopped, otherwise you will get very familiar with 1 Nephi, but may never finish this year
Each week in Primary we are asking for maps and reminding everyone to read their Book of Mormon. So far the response has been overwhelming! So many children are on the 2nd, 3rd, or even the 4th map already!!! We are grateful that this challenge is being accepted and know that as we carry out this program, testimonies will grow and be strengthened. We are appreciative of the support we are getting from the parents. Thank you.
